Evros

The Évros Trio takes its name from the river that marks the border between Greece, Bulgaria, and Turkey. This shared cultural area, at the crossroads of these three countries in the region of Thrace, symbolizes a deep connection between their rich and intertwined cultures.

From Epirus (in western Greece) to eastern Turkey, via the Pirin region (in Bulgaria) and Istanbul, the trio explores Greek and Ottoman repertoires, bringing together learned traditions and popular music.

Around the Aegean Sea, melodies circulate and intertwine, moving from popular and rural repertoires to the more refined musical traditions of Istanbul. From the tavern to the Ottoman court, stylistic boundaries have long been fluid.

The three musicians of Évros joyfully take up their instruments and perform a vibrant, living music born of all these cross-cultural encounters.

With Spyros Halaris (kanun, lavta, vocals), Léa Maquart (kaval and ney flutes), and Étienne Gruel (percussion).
